The dangers of the single story – Simplicity a step too far

In Uncategorized on October 23, 2009 at 1:54 am
When it comes to understanding people there are real dangers to adopting a simplistic view.

This Video is a bit long but it’s a great example of a clearly articulated message about diversity.

  • It’s easy to go too far and to simplify our concepts of people to fit just one narrative.
  • The single story creates stereotypes and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue but that they are incomplete they make one story become the only story.
  • To insist on only negative stories is to flatten experience and to overlook the many other stories that form an individual.
