The new hanging gardens of babylon

Visually arresting article on green architecture over on doorknob.

I cant help thinking though that beautiful as they are most of these projects are nothing more than follies.
The green roofs and augmented green architecture seem practical but with real estate prices being what they are and the amount of arable land still available, Urban farms? I just cant see it .

Some Rich cites may build a few as vanity projects but I’m in no way convinced that their sustainability and green credentials will be intact if they do.
A few of these projects would make for some fantastic living environments and great tourist attractions but the cash could probably be spent better growing food somewhere else.
Even though I have to admit that a real emerald city would probably fill me with wonder.
